The Town placed fourth among top 10 municipali ties with similar population. Oakville ranked fourth within the group with populations of 50,000-499,999. "On behalf of Council, I'd like to congratulate ev eryone involved in organizing such a successful and widely recognized event," Mayor Rob Burton said in a press release. "We're very proud to offer such a great opportunity for residents to explore the vibrant arts and culture scene that is thriving in our community." Rankings were based on the number of activities held in each community. Oakville's three-day celebra tion featured 62 activities, performances, hands-on workshops and exhibitions. Residents had the opportunity to explore music, dance, visual arts and theatre at multiple locations including: Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC), Towne Square, Oakville Public Library, Bronte Village, Lions Valley, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and Oakville Galleries. Highlights from this year's lineup included an improv workshop with the Oakville Improv Theatre Company, Oakville Wind Orchestra's Instrument Zoo and Saxophone Quartet performance, a Truth and Reconciliation movie night and community conver sation, a family art workshop and a special Oakville Symphony performance celebrating 150 years of mu sic in Canada. Culture Days is a grassroots, nation-wide movement that aims to raise awareness, participation and engage ment in the arts and cultural life of Canadian com munities. The event takes place at 7 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Park Com munity and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd., in Oakville. The Oakville Vocal Arts Festival approached the Town of Oakville last Au gust about providing a ven ue for Oakville's first Instant Choir. The Town became a part ner with The Oakville Vo cal Arts Festival on the new venture. Interested participants should register at www. oakvillevocalartsfestival.ca/ instant-choir/. Registration and partici pation in Instant Choir are free, but participants are requested to bring a non perishable food item to the event on Dec. 20 for Oakville's Food Hamper.
