NEWS Oakville Knights of Columbus host Special Olympics flag raising The Special Olympics flag is bound for Oakville. As part of the Knights of Columbus Flag Relay, the Town of Oakville will recognize its own Special Olympians with a flag-rais ing ceremony at town hall (1225 Trafalgar Rd.) on Friday (Feb. 9) at 11 a.m. A number of local Special Olympic ath letes and coaches will be on hand, as well as Oakville and provincial dignitaries. A lunch at Boston Pizza will follow the flag raising. Since early January, municipalities across Ontario have taken possession of the Special Olympics flag, showing their support and commitment for its athletes and programs. The movement includes 113 Knights of Columbus districts throughout Ontario and continues until the end of May in Peterbor ough. Kids invited to name new RCMP puppies Hey kids, the RCMP needs your help. The agency's Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta will see 13 Ger man shepherd puppies born this year, and children from coast to coast are invited to help name them this month. The names will be original, imaginative and serve the puppies during their career as police service dogs. The 13 children whose puppy names will be selected will each receive a laminated eight-by-10-inch photo of the puppy they named, a plush dog called Justice and an offi cial RCMP baseball cap. The rules of the contest are simple: • puppy names must begin with the letter "L" and have no more than two syllables and nine letters; • contestants must live in Canada and be 14 years old or younger; • only one entry per child must be sent; • entries must be sent no later than Feb. 28,2018. To participate, use the online form at www.rcmp-grc.ca/depot/pdstc-cdcp/name- the-puppy-nomme-le-chiot-eng.htm or mail your puppy name, own name, age, complete address and telephone number to: 2018 Name the Puppy Contest, RCMP Po lice Dog Service Training Centre, P.O.
