TO WAR F photo TOWARF Rear Commander Mike Baskwell presents Oakville Power Boat Squadron Vice Commodore Brian Owens with a plaque in recognition of the help the group provided during the flooding in spring 2017. TOWARF now back at HQ • Continued from page 54 Baskwell said the Oakville Power Boat Club actually went one step further and gave the TO WARF vessel fuelling rights at their docks so the rescue boat could continue to do its impor tant work. Baskwell noted that because of the actions of these two groups there was never a time during this upheaval when TOWARF was out of action and unable to provide its water rescue service. With the receding of Lake On tario TOWARF is now back at its headquarters, however, the assis tance offered by the two boating groups has not been forgotten. "We wanted to thank them for all they have done," said Bask well. In this time of community and community building and all the different things that are going on at the waterfront, I thought this was something that definite ly needed to be recognized." As a token of that apprecia tion, TOWARF recently present ed plaques to both the Oakville Power Boat Club and the Oak ville Yacht Squadron. "Thank you for your initiative and for helping us," said Bask well. It is wonderful when every one comes together and does what they need to do. That's what it is all about." TOWARF is a Canadian Coast Guard auxiliary unit and pro vides marine search and rescue service with the primary goal of saving lives at risk in western Lake Ontario. Started in 1954 by Oakville then police chief Fred Oliver in partnership with the local boat ing community, TOWARF has been patrolling the waters off Oakville ever since.
