She is survived by fo u r sons, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandson. John (Carmen Swanson) of Kamloops [Jake and Sara]; Rick (Nancy) o f Lacombe [Patrick and Andrew (Tyson g. g. son)]; Doug (Paula Rochon) of Toronto [Steuart, Katie and Cameron]; and Mark (Christina Muller) of Toronto [Katrina, Jenna and Scott]. Godmother to Trish Jarvis o f Oakville. Born in M o n tre a l, she g ra d u a te d B.Sci. M icrob io logy [McGill, 1944]. Third female science grad. She worked at McGill and Royal Victoria Hospital until spring 1946, then Queen Mary Veterans until fall 1949, and Calgary's Colonel Belcher until 1953. She met Jack, who worked with B/A Oil, at an auto mechanics course in Calgary and they married May 24, 1952. John and Rick were born in Calgary and Doug and Mark after moving to Clarkson in 1958. Peggy helped create the first preschool at Clarkson United. In 1964 they moved west to Moose Jaw for three years, then East to Oakville to escape the cold prairie winters. There, she was active w ith the University Women's Club, Oakville Golf Club (Women's President), and was a volunteer docent at the Gairloch and Harbourfront Galleries. She also created beautiful ceramics and was a talented jewelry designer. In 1971, she earned a B.Ed from U of T, and worked as a teacher in Oakville. She then worked again as a microbiologist. She moved to London, UK in 1978 where Jack was VP Engineering at BP. By recent count, Peggy travelled to more than 50 countries. In 1982, they returned to Oakville and she continued active volunteer work. Her parents Edward (d.1945), and Sarah (nee Steuart d.1956) moved to Summerland BC (from Scotland), and Montreal (from UK) respectively in 1905. Peggy helped her children enjoy the outdoors with ski trips in the Rockies, and camping trips. She gave them an interest in nature, photography, music, art and science. She was an accomplished and very strong willed woman. She loved Churchill Place in Oakville where she spent the last eight years. A community celebration of life will be held Thursday, February 15th, 7 p.m., at St. Johns United Church in Oakville - reception to follow (262 Randall St.) A spring private interment will follow. Special thanks to the nurse, Eva, who treated Bill w ith compassion and respect in his final hours. Bill was a go lf enthusiast and devoted Jays fan. He raised a family with his wife, Marion, in Oakville, Ontario. The annual fam ily tr ip to the Outpost Lodge was a h ig h lig h t o f his summers. He loved to fish the hotspots around Lake Jobamageeshig and would stop to cook daily shore lunches over an open fire on "Our Island." Bill loved to travel and took his fa m ily to H aw aii, Mexico, Bahamas, Eastern Canada and Florida. Many happy March Breaks were spent watching the Jays at spring training in Dunedin where the kids would get autographs from the likes of Buck Martinez and Pete Rose. Bill also tra ve lle d extensive ly w ith Marion visiting Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, England, Ireland and many places in the Caribbean. He had a penchant for jazz and blues music and had fond memories of dancing the night away with Marion upstairs at "M a xw e ll's " in O ttaw a. Bill graduated from University of Victoria in 1962. After graduating he moved to Ottawa and then Toronto. He had a successful career as a management c o n s u lta n t w o rk in g fo r Price Waterhouse. He eventually retired as a partner w ith the firm Towers, Perrin, Forster and Crosby. Bill is survived by his w ife , ch ild ren , grandchildren, sister and nieces.
