"So I'm going to offer a motion that seeks to turn the tables and put the shoe on the other foot." The bulk of the adminis trative services committee voted to pass this motion. OYS representatives strongly disputed they were responsible for delays in reaching an agreement, a subject former OYS Com modore Pierre Perrenoud addressed during Monday's council meeting. "I agree with the mayor that negotiations have tak en too long. It has been sug gested that eight years have passed since negotiations began. The reality is that OYS was presented with the possibility of a new lease in 2010 and as prudent volunteer fiscal managers of a not-for-profit organiza tion we could not con sciously agree to the sub stantial financial increases in that lease, unaffordable to our rank and file, while there was still five years left on our old lease," said Perrenoud. "In May 2013, we re quested town staff start the negotiation process to deal with the lease that would expire in July 2015. Staff re plied to us they needed to conclude negotiations with the Bronte Harbour Yacht Club and the Oakville Pow er Boat Club before ever coming to the table with OYS. So we waited." Perrenoud said negotia tions didn't begin until after the lease had expired in De cember 2015 and argued town actions have caused additional delays since. Following the mayor's motion some barriers to a future agreement came down with the OYS agree ing to sell floating docks it owns to the town for $65,000. Town staff said they wanted this purchase for fairness and consistency reasons as the other boat ing clubs do not own their own docks. • See CLUB'S, page 29 Custom made Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinetry \ Closet Systems Entertainment Units I Basement Renovations I Full Renos and More!
