In response to CURE‘s letter, board chair Dave Whiting issued a release at Thursday‘s board meeting which stated that staff would "review all public input, make recâ€" ommendations for appropriate curâ€" riculum modifications to the writing team and provide trustees, CURE Halton and other interested parents with a summary of our response as "We don‘t want to be this nasty, aggressive group," said Folkens. Folkens, spokesperson for CURE Halton (Citizens United for Responsible Education), was pleased that the Halton Board of Education listened to concerns expressed by the group at a public forum last month about the proâ€" posed new human sexuality curricuâ€" lum . Wanting to keep the lines of communication open, CURE sent a letter to the board recently outlining their hope that the two sides could iron out their differences. There is "a little open door" believes IIse Folkens. By KATHY YANCHUS Oakville Beaver Staff CURE optimistic over board‘s response to sexâ€"ed concerns UP To EARLY SEASON SPECIALS! Sales Representative Whiting also said staff agreed they could make chastity a stronger alternative, something Folkens would like to see implemented. Administration decided to review the curriculum, after the public forum, at which a standingâ€" roomâ€"only group of parents voiced their concern that Halton‘s human sexuality curriculum was moving towards Toronto‘s â€" which teaches homosexuality. They have agreed there are a couple of points they can "reâ€"visit" and "reâ€"do", said Whiting, such as isolating the teacher materiâ€" al from the student material for the parents‘ benefit. Teacher material, which includes more indepth inforâ€" mation giving them the ability to answer questions that arise, was intermingled with student material, explained Whiting.
