Real Estate:The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday, Mar. 2, 1994 â€" 22 advised by security experts reakâ€"ins are something most B homeowners don‘t like to think about. But have you ever wonâ€" dered what you would do if your home was the target of theft and someone made off with your valuables and sentimental keepsakes? Take a moment to think about it. How would you identify your lost objects to the police and your insurance company? Would you be able to give a full and accurate account of everything that was missing? If you‘re like most people, it would probably take days before you realized that, in addition to your VCR and TV, certain items (often the most treasured) were seized as well. And when was the last time you checked your household insurance poliâ€" cy? If you haven‘t updated it to keep up with your accumulation of belongings, you might be in for a shock. It‘s important to make sure you have insurance to cover the replacement costs of any lost, stolen, or damaged goods. Upâ€"toâ€"date inventory These days, in addition to crimeâ€" proofing your home (with alarms, timers, and so on), it also makes sense to have an accurate, upâ€"toâ€"date inventory of your household items so you can report your losses quickly and easily â€" just in case you ever happen to become the victim of a breakâ€"in. You can achieve this in a number of ways. The most inexpensive way is to sit down and take an inventory of the conâ€" tents of every room in your home, recording objects, and, if possible, noting their relative value. While this may seem like a tedious, onerous task, the informaâ€" tion will certainly be a helpful reference point if you ever experience a breakâ€"in. Many people are choosing to videoâ€" tape all the rooms in their homes, so they have a "living picture" of the contents. (If you do this, be sure to keep the video in a secure place or make a copy for safe keeping.) If you‘re not comfortable using a video camera, you may choose to take photographs of the rooms in your home â€" or merely group your most treasured and expensive items together to be phoâ€" tographed. This is also a good idea; but again, keep the photos in a safe place and remember where you stored them. You may want to consider engraving your valuables, where possible, and to put stickers on the doors or windows of your home, warning potential thieves that your valuable have been engraved with identification marks. This alone helps to serve as a deterrent because marked items usually fetch a much lower resale price on the street. Engraving kits can often be borrowed from your local police. Real Estate Market is Heating Up Now If you have been considering buying or selling now is the ideal time to trade in real estate. < = For more information or any questions call: 338â€"3737 or 849â€"3305 251 NORTH SERVICE RD.
