NEWS 35 Four charged in slew of residential break-ins in Oakville and Burlington Four people have been charged in connection with a lengthy Halton-York po­ lice investigation into a se­ ries o f residential break- ins in Halton and the Greater Toronto Area. Between Dec. 19 and Jan. 8, a total o f 13 residen­ tial break and enters oc­ curred in Oakville and Burlington. In each incident, the suspects knocked on the front door to determine whether or not a resident was home. After confirm ­ ing the homes were empty, the culprits forced entry to the front doors before ran­ sacking bedroom s in search o f m oney or j ewelry. This prompted a cross- jurisdictional investiga­ tion, in which a com bina­ tion o f investigative tech­ niques were utilized, re­ sulting in the identification o f the accused. On M arch 2, Halton and York police arrested three o f the culprits. At the time the accused failed to escape arrest by colliding with another ve­ hicle and fleeing the scene on foot. The last o f the four ac­ cused was arrested on March 8. Search warrants sup­ porting the offences were executed at the accused's residences and resulted in the recovery o f large amounts o f jew elry and ev- idence linking the culprits to the entries in Halton. Said Halton Deputy Chief Nishan Duraiappah, "The Halton Regional Po­ lice Service and our part­ ners understand how im ­ portant it is for our resi­ dents to feel safe and se­ cure in our communities. Residential break and en­ ters are a clear priority for our service. Considerable resources were invested to support that understand­ ing and ensure the best out­ come possible. This com ­ bined with benchm ark ex­ cellence in cross jurisdic­ tional collaboration have resulted in the arrest o f the people responsible for these intrusive offences. I share satisfaction with the people impacted by these crimes in knowing the per­ sons responsible will be held accountable." The accused face a com ­ bined total o f 48 charges. Charged are as follows: •Rai Teixeira, 22, of Brampton was charged with breaking and enter­ ing - comm itting (10 counts), breaking and en­ tering - with intent (three counts) •Lincoln Samuels, 22, of Tottenham was charged with breaking and enter­ ing - comm itting (six counts), failing to com ply with probation (four counts) •Cesar Montesdeoca, 22, o f Brampton was charged with breaking and enter­ ing - comm itting (eight counts), breaking and en­ tering - with intent (two counts), failing to com ply with probation (two counts), possession o f property obtained by crime •Vincent Vassel, 23, o f Brampton was charged with breaking and enter­ ing - comm itting (five counts), breaking and en­ tering - with intent (two counts), failing to com ply with probation (six counts) Anyone with additional inform ation concerning this investigation can con­ tact Halton regional police Det.
