Compose a quiet comer in your home by grouping long-stemmed glassware, pottery pitchers and a collection of brass- or wood-framed photographs. Add a vase containing a few tulips surrounded by some small evergreen branches from the garden, or store-bought greenery. The early harbingers of spring - tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and crocus are available across most of Canada right now. Use them to create your own still-life arrangements. Some sure signs of spring If you inadvertently break off some of the flower stems. or cut them too short. don't discard the blossoms. They can still be used to create a diminutive bouquet. perhaps in an old mason jar or coffee Here's a tip to make working with Amaryllis easier: wind a thin wire or thread around the end of the cut stem. Ordinarily the stem ending has a tenden- cy to split and curl upward. Binding it will help prevent this from happening. Also, because the Amaryllis stem is hol- low, placing a small wooden stick (e.g. shish kebab skewers work well) inside the stem provides extra support to keep the arrangement upright. Alternatively it only takes one Amaryllis to make a beautiful table deco- ration. Place a set of wine glasses or shal- low bowls in the centre of the table and set one gigantic flower afloat in any of them. Be sure that the open blossom points upwards, showing off the flower’s lovely throat. In the other glasses or bowls, arrange greenery or even a float- ing candle. Create a glittering, festive effect by placing the entire arrangement on a mirror. like a ribbon among the Amaryllis-filled vases mug DARLEEN CWIRENKO 842- 7000 DARLEEN CWIRENKO 642-7000 COUNTRY ATMOSPHERE!
