National accolades have been bestowed upon two lo- cal educators, via the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence program. At the national ceremo- ny in Ottawa Nicole Antho- ny from John Polanyi Col- legiate Institute in Toronto received a Prime Minister's Award - the Certificate of Excellence - from Justin Trudeau. It was also acknowl- edged during the ceremony that Sarah Sils from St. Mildred's Lightbourn School in Oakville, who was unable to attend, would receive a certificate of achievement. The awards recognize the important role educa- tors in all regions of Cana- da play in preparing and in- spiring young Canadians to become our future lead- ers and innovators. Teachers and early childhood educators from across the country re- ceived Canada's highest honours for teaching excel- lence, teaching excellence in science, technology, en- gineering and math (STEM) and excellence in early childhood education at the Prime Minister's Awards ceremony held in Ottawa. Prime Minister Trudeau presented 18 edu- cators with certificates of excellence and recognized 46 educators who will re- ceive certificates of achievement. The Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes out- standing elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines. Award winners have demonstrated exceptional teaching practices that have inspired their stu- dents and equipped them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Sixty-four educators from every region, including Oakville, have received the Prime Minister's Award this year.
