The film festival is now in its fifth year in Oakville. Over the last five years, the festival has attracted more than 8,000 attendees and presented close to 80 films. This year's event, which runs June 22-24, will in- clude screenings of 18 fea- tures and documentaries, and 36 short films, many of which will be in their own category called Shorts for All Sorts. Of the short films, 26 are from Canada, and nine premieres from Sheridan College. All of the films will be screened and available to view at several places over the festival weekend. "We have, also, all the films at Film.ca running si- multaneously so you're never short of incredible movies over the course of the entire weekend," said Judah Hernandez, co- founder and director of OF- FA. The festival focuses on films based around social issues with important sto- ries to be told. Wendy Don- nan, co-founder and chair of OFFA, explained at a re- cent launch event that a lot of films are centred around women's issues, political issues and Indigenous is- sues. "We have a lot of Canadi- an premieres, Eastern Canada premieres, and a lot of really good social is- sues based stories," she said. Some of the films sur- rounding bigger issues in- clude Shock and Awe, When They Awake and Ho- chelaga: Land of Souls. Official venues for the festival are the Oakville Centre for Performing Arts, where all gala and Shorts for All Sorts will be screening, as well as Film- .ca in Oakville for all other screenings.
