BEDARD, George Jerome Jr. Bedard (Jr.), George Jerome, born February 6, 1922 in Dover, New Hampshire. Died peacefully on May 16, 2018 in the palliative care unit at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial H o s p i t a l . G e o r g e ' s d e a t h w a s preceded by the passing of his beloved wife Betty (E l izabeth) Bedard in 2006. They were married for over 61 years and raised 10 children. George was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire (Chemical Engineering). In 1944 at the age of 22, he attended a fast- track program (graduates of this program were colloquially known as "90 day Wonders") at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon graduation he was assigned to act ive duty as an Engineer ing Officer (Ensign) on the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill in the Pacific Fleet. His wife-to-be Betty also served in the USN as a teacher in San Francisco. After the war, George and Betty returned to New Hampshire for work and to start a family. In 1959 the family permanently moved to Canada (first to Toronto, then Stratford and f inal ly Oakvi l le) . Initially employed as a chemical engineer, he quickly moved to General Plant Manager and Vice- President positions for the Judson Dunaway Corporation, Drackett Company of Canada, Bristol-Meyers, Pennwalt Canada, and Ferro Metals. Loving father of Katherine (Michael), George (III), Mary (Stephen), James (Krista), Stephen (Minda), Donald, Timothy (Mary), Thomas, Ellen (Bill) and John (Shelly). Selby Its with great sadness we announce that our much loved Selby died peacefully at Ian Anderson House in Oakville on May 13, 2018. "I've had a good life" - he commented recently. Selby loved life and was a cheerful, patient, and kind man. He delighted in all the many wonderful people who became fr iends along the way; although it should be pointed out that those fr iends were always outranked by the various dogs in his life. No offence - the family only just came out ahead! The good l i fe mentioned included l iving with prostate cancer for the last 12 years. He accepted all its ups and downs as just another part of that life and never complained. He was grateful for all the treatment he received at Princess Margaret Hospital and willingly signed up for anything to help further research. He is survived by Terry, his wife of 35 years; daughter Bryn (PJ) and her mother, Ann; Sons Don (Jen), Alan (Ann), daughter Jane and their mother, Ruth; Granddaughters Brooke and Alyssa; Grandsons Rory and Ol iver. Many people have deserved our thanks; too many to list individually, but a few should be mentioned at this time: Thanks to: Drs. Lynne Benjamin, Jeremy Fong and Acclaim Nurse Samantha for all their help these last months; friend Emmett for keeping Selby's spirits up with frequent phone calls and jokes when he could no longer hike; dear friends Chas and Jan for all the practical help and support over many years for which we're everlastingly grateful; and lastly, we're deeply indebted to the Pathfinders for always being there for us. Online condolences may be made at www.glenoaks.ca WEINGARDEN, Lesley 1945-2018 Lesley West Weingarden, wife of Philip Weingarden, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2018 in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Born March 26, 1945, the youngest daughter of William and Bessie West, Lesley spent her early childhood with her two older sisters, Alison and Adrian, in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), before moving to Stratford, Ontario, where her father was English Master at the Stratford Teachers' College. At their family cottage, north of Thunder Bay on Lake Shebandawon, Lesley enjoyed many wonderful summers and developed her enduring love of cottage life. In the late 1960's, Lesley became an RN. After a lengthy career at Toronto General Hospital, she left the profession to join the Market Research field. In 1973, Lesley married Philip Weingarden, beginning a 45-year journey together. Philip and Lesley had no children but they lavished love on their four successive Westies - each named Pucci - who experienced a privileged lifestyle running by the lake in downtown Oakville, going to their cottage, and wintering in Naples, Florida. Lesley loved watching animals in the outdoors and feeding the birds. She had the eclectic touch of the artist and expressed it through her unique taste in one-of-a-kind clothing. Late in life, strong-minded and fiercely determined to earn a B.A. degree, she enrolled at Lakehead University at the age of sixty-six. Always cheerful despite her lengthy battle with lupus disease, Lesley was diagnosed with vascular dementia and lung cancer in September of 2017. Lesley was lovingly cared for by Bozena Engel and Margaret Duyvelshoff as well as by the wonderful staff at Sunrise of Oakville. She will be truly missed by her husband Phil; sisters Alison Kar and Adrian Forrin (Bert); and her nieces, nephews and in-law's. She developed many friends over the years who will cherish her memory. A celebration of Lesley's life will be held for family and friends on Monday June 4, 2018, at 1p.m. at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, Ontario (Tel: 905-257-8822).
