The five-year term begins Aug. 7, with Morrison replacing Mary Preece, who is re- tiring. Morrison. who becomes the college's eighth president, joined Sheridan in Novem- ber 2016. In the next 18 months she led in de- veloping Sheridan's academic plan and in- troduced renewed vigour to recruitment re- tention and efforts to enhance the student experience. Steve Boone, chair of the college's board of governors and the presidential search committee, said Morrison is an outstanding choice for president. "She's an accomplished educator and ex- ecutive administrator who has continually earned the trust of those around her," he said. "Her deep understanding of the sector and passion for student success make her ideally suited to lead Sheridan and shape its future."future."f Morrison is a big believer in the transfor- mative powers of post-secondary education and Sheridan in particular. "I'm particularly proud to lead at Sheri- dan, a learning community renowned for its character, unwavering commitment to aca- demic quality, and accountability to stake- holders," she said. "What distinguishes this institution is its people: students, faculty and staff. I want to thank every member of the Sheridan community and the board for their confidence in my leadership." Sheridan's board of governors accepted the search committee's recommendation af- ter more than 50 applications were received from candidates across Canada. Eight werefrom candidates across Canada. Morrison spent 17 years at York Universi- ty working in various roles focused on learn- ing, discovery and engagement, culminating in her position as vice-provost, students. Before joining York, she held leadership positions in student affairs at the University of Guelph, Bowling Green State University, Medical College of Ohio and George Brown College. Morrison holds undergraduate and grad- uate degrees in history and education. She has taught at several institutions as both a teaching assistant and a member of the part- time faculty. Sheridan has approximately 23,000 full- time and 18,500 continuing and part-time studies students on three campuses in Oak- ville, Brampton and Mississauga.
