Oakville's planning and development council voted recently to approve a zon- ing change that will allow All Seniors Care Acquisi- tions Ltd. to construct a se- niors living/long term care facility ranging in height from four to six storeys at 2135 Dundas St. W. The facility would be lo- cated on the north side of Dundas Street West, west of Hospital Gate, adjacent to Oakville Trafalgar Me- morial Hospital. The developer's propos- al says the seniors living/ long term care facility would be made up of 98 as- sisted living units, 84 total care units and other com- mon areas. "The assisted living units would provide ac- commodation and services such as meals common amenities such as a library, movie theatre, etc. ... for primarily seniors. Each private room would in- clude a bathroom, bed- room, living area, laundry facility and a kitchenette," said Town Senior Planner Paul Barrette in a report to council. "The total care units would provided skilled care, supervision and sup- port and offer higher levels of personal care and sup- port than those offered by the assisted living wing of the building. The total care units are expected to cater to individuals, usually se- niors, who have serious long-term health care needs that cannot be ful- filled at home. However, they can also provide im- mediate support to family caregivers, and the resi- dent, to regain strength and confidence usually fol- lowing a stay in the hospi- tal." The structure would feature 85 parking spaces including 23 surface spaces and 62 underground spac- es. The developer has said the proposed facility would create 117 new jobs. They also said some of the features planned for the seniors living/long term care facility include a theatre, chapel, multi-pur- pose room, library/lounge and games/bistro room. The applicant advised that this facility will be charging a monthly fee to residents.
