Dorothy was born on July 28, 1921 in Manchester, England. She served proudly in the Wrens (Women's Royal Navy) in the war, made lifelong friends there, and established herself as a modern and independent woman during those years. Toward the end of the war she married an officer in the merchant navy, Ken, and together they raised two boys, Michael and Andrew, bringing them to Canada in 1952. Dorothy worked as an Executive Secretary to help the family get established and to pay for her own convertible to drive to work. She and Ken took up sailing again as the boys grew up and were members of the Oyster Bay Yacht Club, the Hamilton Bay Yacht Club, and the Oakville Yacht Club. While loving her life in Canada, Dorothy also remained true to her British roots, maintaining friendships there, visiting frequently, keeping up with her Wren magazine subscription, becoming active in the IODE in her later years, and never quite losing her English accent. She lived in the house that she and Ken bought in West Oakville in 1957 until shortly before her death, a house that cont inued to be the hub a n d m e e t i n g p l a c e f o r h e r children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. Though we mourn her passing, we celebrate her long life and lively spirit. McNAUGHT, Thomas Woods In the presence of his loving family, Tom passed away peaceful ly on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He fought a courageous battle with heart problems which resulted in other complications. He was a loving husband and best friend for over 51 years to his wife, Carilyn (nee Gaul). A devoted father to Rob (Tammie), Brian (Tracy) and Todd (Vanessa). Loving, cherished Poppa to Kendra, Aislynn, Benjamin, Kaiden, Lucy, Nolan and Toby. Brother to Donna, Bill (Bette), sister- in-law Mary Ellen and brother-in- law Barry Paton. He is predeceased by his parents Melville and Irene McNaught, brother David, sisters Janet (Paton) and Lorna. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends. Tom was born on October 23, 1944 in Stratford, ON. He graduated from Ryerson Polytech in 1966 and was a manager for Ford Motor Truck Company for over 39 years with perfect attendance. Tom was an avid gardener and hockey was his "life". Up until last November he played hockey as a goalie three t imes a week and coached the Eagles Peewee hockey team. He was a member of the Oakvi l le Optimist Club for 27 years and held positions within Central Ontario and Optimist International. He was the Pres ident of the Oakvi l le Ford Salaried Retirees Association and was a member of St. Paul's United Church for 50 years. A special thanks to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial staff who were so loving and caring. Thanks for the visits, phone calls and cards from friends and family. He has made a difference in so many lives.
