The local utility says it has be- come aware of multiple scam at- tempts in which Oakville Hydro customers have been contacted by text message or email, provided a link and told to visit the link to get a refund. Other customers report receiv- ing phone calls demanding pay- ment to avoid immediate service disconnection. In each case the individual be- hind the call or message claims to be from Oakville Hydro. The real Oakville Hydro is as- suring customers their personal information is secure. They also point out that Oak- ville Hydro will never request credit card information via text message, phone or email and does not threaten to disconnect service if payment is not provided immedi- ately. They said Oakville Hydro does not provide refunds through inter- net links.
