Learn how to unlock the potential of food for your health and vitality! In this engaging presentation, award-winning dietitian Sue Mah will inspire you with her top five ways to eat better, including brain boosting foods, the MIND diet and plant-based eating tips. Thursday, October 18th at 2:30 p.m. Sue Mah, MHSc, RD Conor Butt, general man- ager of the Kerr Street Ca- nadian Tire. "Our campaign this year started with our cash manager, Nancy (Kotyk), working countless hours after her shift, creating posters and planning events. I'm very happy to be part of the Canadian Tire Kerr Street team and thrilled to work with both Lighthouse and Big Broth- ers Big Sisters." Kotyk also weighed in on the donation, thanking her staff for their hard work and the store's cus- tomers for the generosity that made the donation possible. She said her team raised more than $12,000, which will be used to help get kids involved in organized sports programs who oth- erwise would not be able to participate. This outstanding fund- raising effort resulting in the Canadian Tire Corp. awarding the Kerr Street Canadian Tire a $20,000 community donation to their charities of choice. The Kerr Street Canadi- an Tire was one of only three stores to win this op- portunity. "We have chosen to do- nate a $10,000 cheque to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton, and to donate a $10,000 cheque to the Lighthouse for Grieving Children - two lo- cal charities that touch the lives of children in our community," said Kotyk. The Lighthouse for Grieving Children pro- vides peer support for grieving children, youth and their families, follow- ing the death of a parent or sibling. The organization said they provide their services to families for free and rely on donations from individ- uals and corporations to continue their work. They said the Canadian Tire donation will enable six children to receive grief support for an entire year at Lighthouse. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton provides quality mentor- ing relationships to chil- dren in need. "The gift from Kerr Street Canadian Tire, which is a direct result of the staff's compassion and commitment to supporting children in our communi- ty, means so much to us," said Sandra Baker, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton and Hamilton. "This is a team of neigh- bours and friends who, through raising money, were awarded an opportu- nity to extend some addi- tional financial support to any charity. And, through their interest in kids' suc- cess, they selected us as a recipient. We are so ho- noured and will use the funds to further extend our work in finding mentors for the 80 children who are waiting today for a positive role model. Thank you, Kerr Street Canadian Tire Team." For more information on the Lighthouse for Grieving Children, visit www.grievingchildren- lighthouse.org/index.php.
