The bird's water content reacts with the hot oil, causing a fire, serving as a timely reminder with Thanksgiving at our doorstep. The demonstration was put on during the Oakville Fire Department's annual open house, held Saturday to coincide with the upcoming Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 7-13). Two-and-a-half-year-old Jadon Chan gets a little mist back in his face as he operates a fire hose alongside mom Karen, while volunteer Anthony Sorgiovanni offers instructions. Filip Thibault, four-and-a-half, gets to work pulling a hose reel at the mini firefighter combat challenge station.
