Unifor Local 707 presi- dent Dave Thomas, who represents the workers at the Oakville plant, weighed in on the situation in Osha- wa. "Shame on General Mo- tors. Local 222 had language that they bargained in 2016 that it was status quo until the next round of bargain- ing (fall of 2020)," said Thomas. "We're just two years in- to it and they come and say they're restructuring and closing Oshawa and three or four plants in the States ... live up to your obliga- tions." When asked if Oakville auto sector employees should be worried Thomas said he was hopeful the union's relationship with Ford is better than that part of Unifor's relationship was with GM.
