Death Notices ITEN, Theodore "Ted" Te d p a s s e d a w a y p e a c e f u l l y o n December 18th surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years Irene (Fowler), their three children and spouses Stephen (Kim) Iten, Yvonne (Bill) Iten-Scott and Ursula (Euan) Iten-McGrath, his grandchildren Caitlin (Chris) Elias, Bronwyn, Theodora and Isabella Iten- Scott and Alastair and Caelan Iten- McGrath and his siblings Hans-Rudi (Ga i l ) I ten and Ruth I ten . He i s predeceased by his sister Alice (Edgar) Meier. Ted was born in Zug, Switzerland in 1929 to parents Louise and Theodore Iten. After studies in aerospace engineering in Luzerne, he emigrated to Canada in 1950 hoping to work on the AVRO Arrow. When that project was cancelled, he turned to the mechanical tool business and was a valued employee of the J Walter Company for over 35 years, eventually becoming its Ontario Regional Manager. After retiring from J Walter in 1991, he and Irene devoted themselves to cattle farming on their two farms in the Hockley Valley. In 2003, they moved to Oakville and were active members in the community, including with the Oakville Lawn Bowling Association and the Hopedale 5 Pin Bowling League. Throughout this time, Ted maintained his Swiss connections and loved to hike with Irene and ski in Engelberg, as well as participate in shoots with the Ontario Swiss Rifle Club. Ted was also a skilled gardener and woodworker and loved animals, in particular his Bernese mountain dogs Rosie and Ricki. Ted was devoted to his family and was a wonderful and caring "Papa" to all of his grandchildren. He was a kind, thoughtful, courtly and a gentle man who liked nothing better than telling a good story over a glass of wine or scotch with friends and family. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ian Anderson House hospice in Oakville would be appreciated.
