FEBRUARY 18, 2019 By Kathy Yanchus The Marshall family is a close-knit group. They love adventurous holidays, exploring their own town and are very involved in Oakville community and civic affairs. "Spending time together as a family allows us to stay connected by sharing each other's company," said Mary Marshall, mother to Clayton, 14, and Jasmine, 12. Oakville has been home for 22 years to Mary and husband Dan. Between Clayton w h o volunteers as a Pool Pal at Queen Elizabeth Park Community Centre pool and plants trees with Oakvillegreen Conservation Association, and Jasmine, who loves to skate and create art (in 2016 her entry was chosen as Mayor Rob Burton's Student Holiday Christmas Card), they have raised two very active kids. "We appreciate our 'kick-back Sundays' when we relax and do various fun activities together as a family," said Mary. "On long weekends and stay- cations, we pretend that we are travelling the globe and dine out at diverse international restaurants." Among the family's favourite destinations are locales in Canada and the Caribbean, including the Sundance Guest Ranch in BC for horseback riding and Tofi no on Vancouver Island, to paddle in a hand-carved traditional red cedar dugout canoe from there to Meares Island. "But we still always love to come home to Oakville," said the family. "In Oakville we are fond of taking in local events, tours and dining out. We also enjoy recreational activities such as walking trails, skating and swimming at the community centres," said Mary. At home, they take pleasure in playing board games and watching movies together, she added. On Family Day this year, the Marshalls will be heading east to Ottawa and Winterlude to skate on the Rideau Canal, view the snow and ice sculptures, take in some snow tubing and indulge in Beaver Tails (pastry). They'll also pack in a Toronto Marlies hockey game. Last year they spent the holiday snow tubing in Barrie and in past years, they have joined in activities with extended family.
