The Oakville Museum would like to bor- row your denim clothing for a new, tempo- rary exhibit. Museum staff said they want members of the public who have a favourite pair of denim jeans, shorts, overalls or even a dress to con- tact them, emphasizing all items will be re- turned when the exhibit is over. They said denim has an interesting histo- ry, originating as sturdy work pants for min- ers and eventually becoming a staple fabric. "Denim is such a universal fabric," said Carolyn Cross, curator of collections, Oak- ville Museum. "It can be found in just about any type of clothing. We want to tell stories of people's denim from a number of angles, not just fashion, but also the environmental, socialfashion, but also the environmental, socialf and political aspects of this hardworking fab- ric. It is going to be a fun exhibit and we are looking forward to borrowing an array of denim garments from Oakville residents." The exhibit in question, From Work Wear to Everywhere: The Story of Denim, will ap- pear at the museum's main gallery at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cul-Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cul-Q tural Centre this summer. Cross said whether a piece of denim cloth- ing is a treasure or a humorous memento, the Oakville Museum wants to hear the per- sonal story behind it.
