A neurologist diag- nosed cervical spondylosis as the likely cause, but her doctor wanted to investi- gate further. An MRI showed Mari- lyn had nine lesions on her brain. Having no other symptoms, Marilyn felt very surprised with the di- agnosis of MS but has since used it as a mantra on how to continue to live her life. MS has caused Marilyn to have a better awareness of her body and to under- stand when it's best for her to take breaks or the time off when she needs it. After being diagnosed nine years ago, Marilyn thought the MS Walk would be a great way to raise funds for the cause. Every year Marilyn contin- ues to push herself and has raised more than $16,400. Last year, Marilyn raised more than $5,000. Each year Marilyn has a candy sale at work. Her goal is always to try and do better, to start asking and fundraising earlier and of course to bring the best candy that her co-workers enjoy. A moment that really stood out for Marilyn was last year when MPP Kevin Flynn told his personal sto- ry as it showed Marilyn how much MS can touch a public figure and the lives around him. She likes how the walk brings awareness to MS and fundraises mon- ey that is put to good use like all the advancements there have been in the past few years. Being open about her own MS has allowed her to meet and bond with other co-workers who either also have MS or a connection to MS. The Oakville MS Walk will take place on Sunday, May 5, at 9 a.m. at 53 Bond St. To register, visit mswalks.ca/ontario or call 1-888-822-8467.
