Marieve Herington was shocked when she read that email from one of her agents informing her she'd been nominated for a Day- time Emmy for outstand- ing performer in an ani- mated program. Although she didn't win the category at the event, held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium May 5, she was thrilled to be nominated, she told the Oakville Bea- ver. The Oakville native was up against some big names in the category, including Mark Hamill, the famed Star Wars actor. Herington, who caught the acting bug as a young- ster performing in school plays, moved to Los Ange- les in 2008 to pursue her dream. She was nominated for her role as Tilly Green on Disney Channel's Big City Greens, an animated com- edy and adventure televi- sion series that premiered last June. It follows the ad- venturous life of Cricket Green, a country boy who moves with his family from their rural farm to afrom their rural farm to af modern metropolis. "I feel like this it's an ho- nour to be nominated. It's pretty exciting to be nom- inated and an excuse to get dressed up," she said, not- ing she was to wear a bright yellow dress, with turquoise jewelry. "It was a huge surprise. My anima- tion agent phoned, and the fact that Disney noticed, itfact that Disney noticed, itf felt like a nice pat on thefelt like a nice pat on thef back - like 'We think you are doing a really good job.'" She said her phone rang endlessly for the next few days as people started "flipping out." She's come a long way since the first play she au- ditioned for, and got the lead role at St. Mildred's- Lightbourn School. From a very young age, she had a passion for mu- sic and acting. She took piano lessons growing up, but her pas- sion was singing, so she fronted a local jazz band,fronted a local jazz band,f which performed in the community regularly, at events such as Midnight Madness, the Oakville Jazz Festival and the Water- front Festival. She took drama at the University of Toronto and worked in the city, getting jobs as a voice actor, doing voice overs, audiotapes and more. As a writer, Herington created the digital series "Pleasant Events" that is currently featured on Eliz- abeth Banks' WhoHaHa- .com. In her spare time she still sings 1930s/1940s jazz with her band the Marieve Herington Band perform- ing in Southern California and Toronto. She also en- joys writing sitcoms and tall jokes with her six-foot- eight husband. At a mere five-foot-two herself, Herington said voice acting gives her many opportunities to play a variety of roles. "I can be anything. I can be British, Southern, a lit- tle boy, an old lady - it's a nice balanced diet," she laughed. Together with her hus- band, they write one-min- ute episodes of a show that appears on her instagram @redherington. It's about a character that grew out of a play they wrote last spring. The episodes ap- pear every Tuesday. Herington said she gets occasionally recognized for her recurring role onfor her recurring role onf the CBS hit How I Met Your Mother, on which she played Betty, a student to Josh Radnor's Ted Mosby. Her character has since graduated and no longer appears on new episodes, but appears in reruns to this day. She can also be recognized for her on-cam- era roles on Modern Fami- ly, The New Normal, Graceland, Baby Daddy and American Housewife. "I'm singing much less these days. I'm a lot more tied into acting, but that's the whole reason I moved to L.A. - to focus on acting," she said. "Music will be in my life always, and still is as some of the characters sing."
