On Jan. 18, at approximately 5:30 a.m., three masked men in an older-model pickup truck ap- proached the Sobeys at 2441 Lake- shore Rd. W. Police said one of the men pried open the store's sliding door, which allowed the group to enter the front vestibule of the store where an ATM was located. The two other men then tied a chain (hooked up to the pickup truck) around the ATM. The driver then accelerated, hauling the ATM through the doors of the store. At approximately 3:30 a.m., three suspects in a pickup truck approached the Film.Ca Cinemas movie theatre at 171 Speers Rd. and applied the same technique to steal a second ATM. Film.Ca Cinemas proprietor and Ward 5 Town and Regional Councillor Jeff Knoll said the thieves did around $20,000 worth of damage to his business in their efforts to steal the ATM. Halton police initiated an in- vestigation and made an arrest on March 13. Brandon Ginn, 25, of Cam- bridge has been charged with breaking and entering and failing to comply with probation. Police were tight-lipped about a second arrest made in connection with these incidents, refusing to disclose the person's name, age, gender, what charges they are fac- ing or even when they were arrest- ed. Officers said the information is being withheld in order to "protect the integrity of the investigation." A third suspect remains at large at this time.
