It's one reason they keep participating in the Relay For Life Youth. It offers them a chance to create hope for those living with and moving past cancer. One of the participants at this year's event was Dearcroft Montessori School student and now cancer-free Lia Goh, 12, who was diagnosed with cancer at age three. She walked with fellow cancer survivor Dylan Buskermo- len, 21, who has battled can- cer since 2017. Oakville Trafalgar High School students Zoe Pres- ton, 17, and her brother James, 15, walked with their grandmother, Joyce Campbell, during the sur- vivors' lap of the school's 2019 Relay for Life Friday, May 24. They led other cancer survivors in the survivors' lap at Oakville Trafalgar High School's Relay for Life that raised more $220,000 this year. Over their eight- year relay history they have raised more than $1 million, making them the top youth event fundraiser for Relay for Life in all of Canada. Oakville Trafalgar High School Relay for Life com- mittee members lined the track's finish line to hand out yellow roses to cancer survivors as they finished the survivors' lap. Student Noah Westwa- ter is one of those. Part of the Grade 11 and 12 Relay for Life organizing com- mittee, he walked the school's track, along with many others. Noah's grandfather died of lung cancer in December 2016, after battling it for 10 months. "This great man played such an important role in my life," he said. "He taught me the power of giving and never expecting anything in return. The loss was one that was hard to deal with."
