Town staff have an- nounced that this June a two-year pilot commer- cial parking program will commence in Bronte Vil- lage to address business and community concerns about the availability of parking in the area. During the pilot pro- gram, paid parking will be available alongside Bron- te storefronts on main and secondary streets, as well as at town-owned spaces at Bronte Village Mall. Parking will be con- trolled with meters, monthly permits and the Honk mobile payment app. "The Bronte pilot park- ing program will support a dynamic and thriving Bronte Village," said Oak- ville Mayor Rob Burton. "Offering and enforc- ing paid parking options will help ensure spaces are available for custom- ers, visitors and residents of Bronte to enjoy the many shops, restaurants and activities in the area." Town staff said the town already manages commercial parking oper- ations in Downtown Oak- ville and Kerr Village. They said charging for parking in commercial ar- eas is a common way to promote turnover and manage demand. Rates, fees, durations and hours of operation in Bronte Village will be con- sistent with those in other commercial districts within Oakville. Town staff said council requested that staff imple- ment a pilot commercial parking program in Bron- te after residents, busi- ness owners and commer- cial property owners raised concerns that visi- tors to the area were park- ing for extended periods of time in the commercial district, leaving limited spaces for shoppers to park. In addition to paid parking, two-hour park- ing limits will be in effect on residential streets ad- jacent to the Bronte Vil- lage commercial shopping area.
