Allen was appointed to the board by the Province of Ontario effective May 10, to succeed Barb Ferrone. Retired from Scotiabank in February 2015 where he was vice- president and chief security offi- cer, Allen brings with him a dis- tinguished background includ- ing work as director of security for the Government of Ontario where his mandate was the pro- tection of the government's elec- tronic networks. Prior to this role he served as Royal Canadian Mounted Police deputy commissioner for Onta- rio and Quebec, deputy commis- sioner national headquarters and deputy commissioner na- tional police services and techni- cal infrastructure, following his work as RCMP chief human re- sources officer. Among his many professional associations, Allen is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and the Confer- ence Board of Canada Security Executives Council. Allen lives in Oakville with his wife where he supports a number of community organizations in- cluding youth hockey and base- ball leagues and children's hospi- tals. The Halton regional police board is a seven-member civilian board that provides strategic oversight to the Halton police. Under the Police Services Act, the board has legislated responsi- bility for the police service's oper- ating and capital budgets, strate- gic planning, policies and priori- ties. The police board's funda- mental responsibility is to ensure adequate and effective police ser- vices are provided to Halton Re- gion citizens.
