The individual, who cannot be identified be- cause he was 17 when the offences were committed, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Oak- ville's Keegan Parkinson, 19. Parkinson was found dead outside a Rebecca Street residence at 11:15 p.m. on July 13. Halton police initially reported the shooting ap- peared targeted, noting they were looking for two masked men who had at- tended the home, shot Par- kinson and then fled the ar- ea. An investigation, how- ever, soon revealed there were no masked suspects. In a Milton court on Wednesday, June 5 JusticeWednesday, June 5 JusticeW Richard LeDressay read an agreed statement of facts during the accused's sen- tencing hearing. He noted that on Friday, July 13, 2018 the accused was hanging out with three friends, including Parkin-friends, including Parkin-f son, in the basement of a Rebecca Street home. LeDressay said during the evening the youths drank alcohol and smoked marijuana. There was a 12-guage sawed off shotgun in the house and the youths start- ed handling it, pointing it, and having photos and vid- eo taken of them posing with the gun while flashing gang signs. At some point the gun was loaded. The accused says he was upstairs getting some- thing when he heard a loud bang. When he ran back downstairs he says he found Parkinson lying onfound Parkinson lying onf the bed with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. "There was an indica- tion that as you were going downstairs you heard someone say something to the effect of, 'Why was this loaded?' and 'Who loaded this?'" said LeDressay. At this point the ac- cused and another youth took steps to make it look like Parkinson had been shot by unknown intrud- ers. LeDressay said they took Parkinson out of the house and placed him at the foot of the driveway. He said the accused called 911 and then hid the bedspread, which was soaked in blood, and changed his clothes and shoes. LeDressay said the ac- cused also disposed of the gun, placing it in some bushes on a neighbour's property, where it was found by police.found by police.f The accused later told police that Parkinson had been getting threatening texts throughout the eve- ning. He told officers the sto- ry about the men in ski masks and even implicated another Oakville youth. "You provided this in- formation and embellishedformation and embellishedf it to divert suspicion from what had actually oc- curred," said LeDressay.
