Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford says the province is moving forward with the next phase of a GO rail expansion pro- gram, which will ultimately see two-way all-day rapid transit service every 15 min- utes brought to core segments of the GO rail network. The province, through Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario, announced May 30 that it is releasing a request for propos- als to a list of teams pre-qualified to de- sign, build, finance, operate and maintain the infrastructure needed for the On-Cor- ridor Works project, the largest capital project in the GO expansion program. "Our government is delivering on its commitment in the 2019 Ontario budget to move ahead with the GO rail expansion program to get people moving faster and improve customer experience through- out the GO transit network," said Craw- ford.ford.f "Our government is committed to im- proving the transit experience for people and ensure that the GTHA continues to grow and prosper as one, integrated re- gion." The four teams pre-qualified to bid on the GO rail expansion program are; En- Transit, MTR Kiewit Partners, Oncore Transit and ONxpress Transportation Partners. The enhanced GO rail services will be incrementally introduced, where possi- ble, to improve train service and provide public benefits sooner. No estimate has been provided regard- ing the general period residents can ex- pect these changes to be in place. Crawford said upcoming improve- ments to the Oakville GO station will in- clude additional secure bike storage, new digital signage and new platform edge tiles to improve safety. He said the province will also work with the Town of Oakville and Metrolinx to complete the Kerr Street underpass project. Construction on that three-year pro- ject is expected to commence in 2020. "We are working to protect what mat- ters most to people," said Crawford. "We are investing in the front line ser- vices and programs, including the GO rail expansion program that will make a real difference in the daily lives of Oakville residents." It is unclear exactly how much the province will be investing in the GO rail expansion program.
