Oakville's Dan Dawson, who ranks third on the National La- crosse League's (NLL) all-time point list, has signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Rock. Dawson is coming off a season in which he scored he scored 29 goals and had 88 points to lead the expansion San Diego Seals to a playoff berth in their first season. He also became just the fifth play- er in league history to score 500 ca- reer goals. "Toronto is where I need to be, where I am meant to be," said Daw- son. "I was born and raised in the GTA. It's a huge part of my up- bringing and who I am. I've been blessed to have had this game take me to many different cities in North America, but finally I get the opportunity to play in my hometown. This is home for me." Dawson has played for eight teams over his 18-year NLL career that began with Columbus, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2001 draft. Since then, he has played for Arizona, Portland, Bos- ton, Philadelphia, Rochester, Sas- katchewan and San Diego. The 37-year-old ranks second all-time in games played (287) and third in assists (887). With 1,396 ca- reer points, he ranks third behind only John Tavares (1,749) - the un- cle of the NHL player of the same name - and John Grant Jr. (1,446). Dawson was named the league's MVP in 2009 and the play- off MVP in 2014, when he won his second of back-to-back NLL titles with Rochester. He added a third Champions Cup in Saskatchewan in 2018. "We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to sign a player with Dan's resumé," said Rock owner and general manager Ja- mie Dawick. "We've gotten youn- ger over the past few seasons, but we aren't scared to add the right veteran. Dan takes care of himself and is a pro's pro with a lot left in the tank. We are happy to bring Dan home and have him play out the final chapter of his Hall of Fame career here in Toronto." "I'm really impressed with the Rock roster and what they've done the past couple seasons," Dawson said. "I am excited to have the op- portunity to play with two of the best righties in the game in Rob Hellyer and Tom Schreiber. Both players are very dynamic and make everyone around them bet- ter. I am looking forward to build- ing some chemistry with Tom and Rob. I played a year under (Rock head coach) Matt Sawyer in Bos- ton and I am just very excited about this opportunity."
