It's the 12th year the ser- vice has conducted its homegrown campaign, which focuses on educa- tion, awareness and high- visibility enforcement of traffic laws throughout Halton Region, particular- ly in and around school zones. This year's campaign started Aug. 26 and wraps up tomorrow (Friday) as children heads back to the classroom. Police were on the look- out for those driving too fast as well as aggressive,fast as well as aggressive,f distracted and/or im- paired drivers. "All motorists have a role to play in traffic safe- ty, especially as children return to class this fall at one of the over 160 educa- tional facilities across Hal- ton Region," said Sgt. Ryan Snow of the Halton police traffic services unit. "Project Safe Start aims to ensure that our youn- gest and most vulnerable road users remain safe. The Halton Regional Po- lice Service would like to encourage motorists to slow down, drive sober and avoid using their cell-avoid using their cell-a phone and other devices at all times while driving. Re- gardless of who is at fault, when a vehicle collides with a pedestrian or cy- clist, the consequences are usually tragic. All chil- dren deserve to attend school - safely." Halton police said resi- dents have ranked traffic concerns as their No. 1 po- licing priority.
