OUR BEST PROMOTION M ar ine Dr ive Bronte Road On ta rio St re et Jones Street La ke sh or e Ro ad W Bronte 2419 Marine Drive Call Debbie at 1-888-870-7965 After lagging most of Canada for many years, Ontario has started the new decade strong, thanks to unprecedented econom- ic growth in 2019. There were 320,000 net new jobs created national- ly in 2019, and 243,000 of those positions were creat- ed in Ontario. The prov- ince's job creation figure represents 76 per cent of all new jobs created in Cana- da, despite only having 38 per cent of the population. Strong economic growth and investment does not come to Ontario by accident. Some of the government initiatives which have encouraged growth include: • Lowering the small business tax rate by 8.7%, saving 275,000 business owners up to $1500 annual- ly; • Reducing WSIB premi- ums, saving Ontario busi- nesses over $2 billion an- nually; • Allowing for in-year write offs of capital invest- ments encouraging invest- ment in manufacturing; • The introduction of LIFT (Low income Individ- uals and Family tax cred- it), which provides tax re- lief of up to $850 for low and minimum wage workers; and • Reducing burdensome regulations and red tape. Encouraging and en- abling a strong economy is essential as we need to pay down the world's largest sub sovereign debt while supporting the health-care needs of an aging popula- tion. Every dollar that does not need to go toward debt is a dollar than can go to ensuring the sustainabili- ty of Ontario's vital servic- es. One of the reasons I en- tered public service was to ensure Ontario remains a great province to live, work and raise a family. This re- quires strong economic growth coupled with debt reduction. I'm proud to say our plan is working and our government is on track to ensure Ontario reclaims its position as Canada's economic engine. -- Stephen Crawford is the MPP for Oakville.
