Eyes Checked Teeth Checked Ears Checked The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing a police incident in Oakville Tuesday, Feb. 18 that left a civilian man with serious injuries. The SIU investigates all incidents between police and civilians that results in serious injury, death or al- legations of sexual assault. The unit was called in after a 12:30 p.m. incident at an Oakville Holiday Inn (2525 Wyecroft Road), where Hal- ton Regional Police re- sponded to a call about a man who barricaded him- self inside a room. Upon arrival, police had an "interaction" with the individual, who was subse- quently transported to hos- pital, Halton police said in a news release. The SIU has been noti- fied and have invoked their mandate due to the nature of the injuries. Halton police aren't making any further com- ment and the SIU has yet to issue a statement on the in- cident. The SIU probes such in- cidents to determine if there was any wrongdoing or potential criminal ac- tions by police. This is the second time in just a few days that an in- cident in Oakville has sparked an SIU investiga- tion. On Feb. 16, a man fell from a balcony in south Oakville during an inci- dent involving Halton po- lice. The SIU is urging any- one who may have informa- tion about the incident to contact the lead investiga- tor at 1-800-787-8529. The unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence to upload that video through the SIU web- site.
