The young actor re- cently made his film de- but in the family drama 'Falling', written, di- rected and starring the celebrated Mortensen. "Being hand-picked by Viggo Mortensen was very special to me because having an actor with so much experi- ence choose me for the role was so exciting," said Piers. "Despite the fact that Viggo is fa-fact that Viggo is fa-f mous, he is so friendly and humble. He was so much fun to work with and he always made sure the entire cast was happy and comfort- able." In the film, Morten- sen's life in Los Angeles with his male partner clashes with that of his traditional minded fa- ther's when the elderly man arrives for an ex- tended stay. Piers portrays John Peterson's (Mortensen) nephew, Will. Will's mother is portrayed by Laura Linney. "Will is a bit of an angsty teen, has blue hair and tends to be moody. He talks back to his grandpa (Lance Henriksen) quite a bit because they don't see eye-to-eye on many things." Piers' shooting schedule included one day in Toronto and eight days in LA. "The LA shoot was probably my favourite part of the entire expe- rience," said the St. Thomas Aquinas Sec- ondary School student. He remembers one day watching the same people walking back and forth past the Santa Monica house where they were filming. "I think they were trying to catch a glimpse of Viggo or somebody else in the cast but that was very funny to see."funny to see."f During filming Piers was also given his own trailer, a perk he thought was awesome. "They even had my name on the door. I've seen them in movies and behind-the-scenes clips, but it was pretty cool to experience it my- self." 'Falling' made its de- but at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 31 and Piers walked the red carpet along with his co-stars in front of a swath of photographers and microphones. After the world pre- miere, the entire cast and crew headed to an after party at a bar in Park City, Utah, said Piers. "However, once we got to the location, the owner of the bar wouldn't let me in be- cause I was a minor. The owner told us that de- spite it being a private after-party, the Utah li- quor laws are extremely strict. Viggo left his own after-party and took myself and one other child actor out for din- ner. This meant a lot to me and it was also great to get to know Viggo even better." Piers said he may be slightly biased, but he thinks 'Falling' is an amazing movie. "I like how the movie really hits hard and has some very intense scenes, but it can be very comedic at times. The movie deals with some very deep family issues that many people could probably relate to in some way." The experience has him "yearning for more opportunities like this." Piers was eight when he moved to Oakville from Penticton, BC andfrom Penticton, BC andf the same age when he began acting, appear- ing in commercials, voice-overs, industrial videos and print ads. "When we moved here to the GTA it was actually my three older sisters who wanted to get into acting. As the little brother, I just fol- lowed along and I ended up really enjoying it."
