The Oakville Fire Depart- ment is warning residents to check and see if they are in possession of a recalled smoke/carbon monoxide de- tector, which may be faulty. Glenn Barwell, the public education officer for the fire department, noted in a Fri- day, Feb. 21, press release that Health Canada recently issued a recall for the 'Com- bination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector for Home.' The identification num- ber for this product is RA-72337. "The alarm is not certi- fied to the Canadian stan-fied to the Canadian stan-f dards and has not been eval- uated for safety," said Bar- well. "The alarm may not oper- ate in the presence of smoke or elevated carbon monox- ide levels, posing a fire and carbon monoxide poisoning hazard." The product was manu- factured in China and dis-factured in China and dis-f tributed by Shenzhen Box- ian Electronic Technology Co. Ltd. Barwell said the recalled product was sold through an independent third party on Walmart.ca under the StockWalmart.ca under the StockW Keeping Unit (SKU)Keeping Unit (SKU)K 6HMGL4RAX630. The affected products were sold from July 2019 to October 2019. Approximate- ly six units of the affected product were sold in Cana- da. "As of Feb. 6, 2020, the company has received one report of a detector failing to operate in Canada, with no reports of injuries," said Bar- well. "Consumers should im- mediately replace the smoke and carbon monoxide detec- tor with a functioning detec- tor." Barwell noted that when purchasing and installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, consumers are ad- vised to look for a recognized certification mark on the product, such as CSA, cUL or cETL.
