Farhat Parvaiz, a mother of three and grandmother of seven, is currently under- going rehabilitation at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) and expects to be discharged later in June. "I am feeling really good," she said. "I am improving, and I thank God and the entire staff for my recovery. I hope to be home really soon." Farhat's daughter, Sadaf, said her mother's recovery is nothing short of mi- raculous, noting it was not that long ago that Farhat was hooked up to a ventilator. "She is 72 years old, diabetic and has an immune disease," said Sadaf. "So, her chances were extremely low for survival." Sadaf said her mother began to show symptoms, including a fever that would not go away, around March 15. As the days passed, Farhat got progres- sively weaker and developed a bad cough. On March 22, her worried husband, Ma- sood, called an ambulance, at which point Farhat was admitted to OTMH and tested for COVID-19. Not long after arriving at the hospital, Sadaf said her mother's symptoms wors- ened significantly. Farhat herself said she had no idea how serious the situation was. "When I was admitted to hospital, I had a really bad cough, but I didn't think I was going to die," she said. "Then a few days later, I could hear the NEWS 'THEY WEREN'T SURE IF SHE WAS GOING TO MAKE IT' SENIOR SHARES STORY OF HER NEAR-DEATH BRUSH WITH COVID-19 DAVID LEA dlea@metroland.com Oakville's Farhat Parvaiz, 72, survived a battle with COVID-19.
