Send a Kid to Camp! After the school year our kids have had, their need to play and enjoy summer is so important. KSM has decided to proceed with our Kerr Street Day Camp (KSDC) while adhering to all guidelines set forth by the government. The children who attend our summer camps have limited opportunities outside of what KSM provides, so the experiences we provide are that much more important. This year the kids will be coming to us with a need for activity and structure in their days and we have been planning a great summer for them. A lot of work is going into planning how to move groups through different areas while cleaning in between. We will be utilizing space at KSM as well as another location. Once the kids are here and seeing their friends again their smiles and joy will make it all worth it. We still need your help to make camp a reality for our kids. Our fundraising program for camp is still in progress, so please reach out if you would like to support us. $160 will send a kid to camp for one week. $1,300 will send a kid to camp for eight weeks. No. 897106845RR0001 Bell times at 18 schools within the Halton District School Board will be altered come Sep- tember. Route efficiencies, safety con- cerns, and the board's efforts to steamline school hours with two, 40-minute nutritional breaks (instead of one 50-minute and one 40-minute break) at all elementary schools over the next couple of years, are behind the adjustments. As of the start of the 2020/2021 school year, the following are the schools affected and the pro- posed hours: Emily Carr Public School: 8:30 a.m.-2:50 p.m. Munn's Public School: 8:45 a.m.-3:05 p.m. River Oaks Public School: 8:45 a.m.-3:05 p.m. Sheridan Public School: 9:05 a.m.-3:25 p.m. Posts Corners Public School: 9 a.m.-3:20 p.m. Dr. David R. Williams Pub- lic School: 9:25 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Ryerson Public School: 8:40 a.m.-3 p.m. Tecumseh Public School: 8:50 a.m.-3:10 p.m. John T. Tuck Public School: 9:20 a.m.-3:40 p.m. Mohawk Gardens Public School: 8:30 a.m.-2:50 p.m. Tom Thomson Public School: 9:20 a.m.-3:40 p.m. Glenview Public School: 9:20 a.m.-3:40 p.m. Maplehurst Public School: 9:15 a.m.-3:35 p.m. EW Foster Public School: 8:45 a.m.-3:05 p.m. JM Denyes Public School: 8:50 a.m.-3:10 p.m. WI Dick Public School: 8:15 a.m.-2:35 p.m. Silver Creek Public School: 8:40 a.m.-3 p.m. The only high school on the list is Craig Kielburger Second- ary School which will see a slight adjustment in its bell times: 8 a.m.-2:34 p.m. to address safety concerns with the nearby French Catholic elementary school. Oakville trustee Kelly Amos voiced concern that no adjust- ment was made for delayed starting times for high school students, to accommodate teen sleep patterns which conflict with early bell times. "To do what's best for stu- dents and have them all learn the best, we have to try and make some accommodation at some point," said Amos. Up to 40 schools could be im- pacted by one high school bell time change, so it's a more com- plex process, said Roxana Negoi, Superintendent of Business Ser- vices. "We are always looking for that opportunity to the extent that it does not have a significant cost," said Negoi. "The way the routes are being developed, they are double or triple runs and one high school has all the feeder el- ementary schools that are con- nected to the same buses, so the students are picked up for the various schools along the way." With the bell time changes there is an anticipated savings of almost $500,000.
