After hearing from sev- eral local residents largely opposed to mandatory masking, followed by hours of debate last week, region- al council unanimously voted to implement a Hal- ton-wide temporary bylaw requiring everyone aged five and up to wear a non-five and up to wear a non-f medical mask or face cover- ing in enclosed public spac- es. It came into effect yes- terday (July 22) and will ex- pire on November 30, with the option for regional council to extend this date. There are several ex- emptions to the rule, in- cluding for people with un- derlying health conditions that inhibit their ability to wear a mask. The bylaw specifies that those who are exempt are not required to provide proof. Halton staff told council that businesses are not allowed to refuse entry if someone is exempt from wearing a mask. For more on the mask debate, visit in- sidehalton.com and search either Dr. Nadia Alam or Dr. Thomas Warren.
