Police said since March they have been alerted to several incidents in which one individual approaches a se- nior in a public place, like a grocery store, and distracts them while a sec- ond individual steals credit and debit cards from the victim's purse or wal- let. The stolen credit and debit cards would then be used to make fraudulent purchases. On Wednesday, Aug. 19 the Halton police investigation into these inci- dents resulted in a search warrant be- ing executed at a residence in Bramp- ton and two people being arrested. Sabrina Lakatosova, 26, and Roman Stojka, 30, of Brampton have been charged with seven counts of theft un- der $5,000, five counts of fraud under $5,000 and five counts of fraudulent use of credit cards. Both have been released pending a court appearance. Police are reminding residents to secure their personal belongings while shopping and never leave purses or bags unattended.
