Officers said the meet- ing plans were widely cir- culated on social media. The meeting itself took place at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex on Neya- gawa Boulevard. Police emphasized the event was unsanctioned and no permits were issued for the use of Town of Oak- ville property. Halton police and the OPP, with support from the Town of Oakville, collabo- rated in a joint response to the car-club meet. The responding officers converged on the area to manage traffic, educate and conduct compliance in- spections and enforce- ment. Police said more than 800 vehicles attended the meet or did U-turns to leave the area after observing po- lice activity. In the span of four hours, police laid 68 charg- es for offences, including stunt driving and careless driving. Three vehicles were also deemed "unfit" due to me- chanical defects, resulting in charges being laid, plates seized and vehicles towed. Police also conducted a number of roadside breath test and drug screenings, resulting in a three-day li- cence suspension being is- sued to a youth for violat- ing the zero drug condition of their licence. "Officers encountered car enthusiasts that attend- ed Halton from across southern Ontario for to- night's unauthorized event. Halton police recognizes the popularity of these events, however, car clubs must obtain necessary per- mits, permissions and in- surance, and otherwise re- spect the surrounding com- munity," said Sgt. Ryan Snow of the Halton Police Traffic Services Unit. "Car enthusiasts who at- tend these events are obli- gated to adhere to all laws pertaining to mechanical fitness, alcohol and drugs, and the rules of the road. Operating a motor vehicle in Ontario on a public road- way is a highly regulated activity and applies to all road users."
