JUST THE FACTS The town conducts reg- ular assessments of town- owned creek channels to determine if erosion poses a risk to nearby homes or infrastructure. • West Morrison Creek from Upper Middle Road to McCraney Street was iden- tified as a high priority. • Construction began July 1 with crews digging a new channel that will redi- rect the creek flow away from the valley wall. • The rehabilitation work on the creek is expec- ted to finish within the next two weeks. • Tree plantings, to re- place some trees removed in March, are expected to conclude by the end of Oc- tober. • The project had a bud- get of $1.6 million. • In an effort to protect local wildlife, no work was done between April and Ju- ly so as not to interfere with fish spawning and bird breeding seasons. • Town staff said ecolo- gists will be on site to en- sure that when water flow is redirected into the new channel, any fish trapped in the old channel are res- cued. The old channel will then be filled in. NEWS WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
