KSM. 485 Kerr Street, Oakville. 905-845-7485. Charitable Reg. No. 897106845RR0001 An Oakville native, currently living and working in Dubai, has co-founded a multi-national com- pany that produces a COVID-19- inspired product he believes cus- tomers will find functional even after the pandemic. Assuage Travel produces seat protectors that are "designed to put an extra layer between you and the bacteria, viruses, and ick on public seats." The seat protectors, which come in a one-time use recyclable version or a plush reusable/ washable model, are for use ev- erywhere from waiting rooms and restaurants, to airplanes and trains, even schools and offices, said TJ Wronski, who co-founded the business along with girl- friend Amelia Gundersen-Her- man. Once the idea was formulated -- after a casual comment by his mom -- the couple visited fabric stores and worked with a tailor to experiment with prototypes, then contacted dozens of manu- facturers to produce samples of their design. "It was important to us that our products and their packag- ing were either reusable or recy- clable, and we actually delayed production when we found out the material one of our manufac- tures had suggested for one of our packages wasn't easily recy- clable. We wanted to make sure that our customers could conve- niently drop the packaging in a nearby recycling bin," said Wron- ski. Outside of coming up with the idea for Assuage seat protectors, his mom has been involved al- most every step of the way, said Wronski. "She is always the 'third opin- ion' that we seek in everything from major business decisions to less important aesthetic choic- es." Wronski said you become a jack-of-all-trades quickly when starting a company, albeit their educational backgrounds cer- tainly bolstered their journey: Wronski has an MBA with a background in logistics and Gun- dersen-Herman, a Masters of In- ternational Business with a background in marketing. "From understanding textile regulations to building a website, designing the packaging and product to marketing, every step has been bootstrapped by us." Assuage is the company's name, because it aims to do pre- cisely that -- assuage peoples' fears about returning to public places, he said. "A lot of our customers have also told us that they have actu- ally always been a bit uneasy us- ing public seats and they would have loved to have an Assuage seat protector long before the pandemic." The couple has included their blog, 'Adventurously', on the As- suage Travel website. "When we started work on As- suage, we instantly knew our travel blog would be the perfect addition to our business, and hopefully help to inspire some of our customers -- many of whom will use their seat protectors for travel. We'd love Assuage to help people travel clean, and Adven- turously help them plan their travels (or at least start to fanta- size about them). Both Amelia and I love (and miss) travelling around the world, and the blog is a way to share the feeling we get from travelling with our readers and customers." Assuage seat protectors are sold as single-use models in a pack of two which are recyclable, and a reusable/washable model that comes with a carrying bag, for $12.95 and $24.95, respectively.
