The Halton Regional Po- lice Service received re- ports of an online extortion involving minors in the summer of 2020 in which victims were asked to send a nude image in exchange for money. The suspect indicated the image would only be viewed for a few seconds before being deleted, inves- tigators allege. After re- ceiving the image, the sus- pect was able to save a copy and threatened to distrib- ute it unless additional im- ages were sent. No money was ever exchanged. The suspect ultimately distributed the images without the consent of the victims and in one case the victim was under the age of 18, police said. A 25-year-old Oakville man has been charged with three counts of extortion, five counts of distribution of intimate image without consent, four counts of dis- tribution of child pornog- raphy and three counts of possession of child pornog- raphy. The charges have not been proven in court. Police believe there may be other victims and are asking anyone who had contact with the online identity of "Jason Totters- mith" or Instagram ac- count "jay.totts" or Snap- chat account of "jtotters- mith" to contact police.
