Veterans Month would start Nov. 1, with communi- ties across the country marking the 30 days in whatever way they see fit; that might be in-school re- membrances, schools and government buildings fly- ing the Royal Canadian Le- gion flag or hosting dona- tion drives, he said. "For a long time, I have felt that, as Canadians, we don't do enough to honour our veterans and their fam- ilies. I strongly believe that one day, November 11, is not enough to acknowledge their service and sacrific- es." Correia believes that a more robust nation-wide tribute of awareness and education would "connect and unite" the country and "have only a positive im- pact on our communities." "It's something that I've always felt very passion- ate, and my family has al- ways felt very passionate about: honouring our vet- erans and thanking them; I mean, we owe them so much," he said in a video in- terview with Damoff. "I just really hope people feel as passionate about this peti- tion as I do and spread it coast to coast. I think it's re- ally, really important to take a hold of this opportu- nity to honour our veterans and their families in a more meaningful way through the entire month. I think it will unite communities and really excite them for gen- erations to come." So far, Canadians have been supportive and want to know how they can fur- ther help, he said. "This country has gone through a lot during the pandemic, and this is a way to bring communities to- gether to create a positive change to better honour veterans and their families. I've also been hearing about numerous veterans passing away, and that was part of the impetus for me as well." Should the 500 target be reached, Damoff will read the petition and results in Parliament, said Correia.
