Students and families will not be able to find out if their child's teachers are vaccinated and schools will have "bullying prevention" strategies in place in antici- pation of classmates treat- ing unvaccinated peers neg- atively. These are some of the highlights of the Halton District School Board's re- turn to school plan, re- leased to families and stu- dents Friday (Aug. 20). In the FAQ section, the board revealed parents can- not find out if their child's teacher is vaccinated, "how- ever the Ontario govern- ment announced on Aug. 17, 2021 that a vaccination dis- closure policy for school board staff will be in place for September 2021. This vaccine disclosure policy applies only to staff, it does not include students." The board also said in the section, it has "bullying prevention strategies" in place to manage the poten- tial negative impact/reac- tion from classmates to- wards students who aren't vaccinated. Health and facility highlights • All students (Kinder- garten - Grade 12) will be re- quired to wear non-medical or cloth masks indoors in school, including in hall- ways and during classes. • Outdoor instructional time will be scheduled to provide students with breaks from wearing masks within their cohorts. • Where they can be worn safely based on the ac- tivity, masking will be en- couraged for engaging in physical activity. • Masks may be tempo- rarily removed indoors to consume food or drink, with a minimum distance of two metres maintained be- tween cohorts and as much distancing as possible with- in a cohort. • All drinking fountain faucets will be disabled. • Water bottle filling fix- tures will remain and will be flushed daily. Student with Possible Symptoms of COVID-19 before Coming to School • Parents/guardians/ students must complete the COVID-19 School Screening Tool. • If your child exhibits symptoms and/or does not pass the Ontario COVID-19 School Screening Tool, they may not return until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result or an alternative diagnosis by a health-care professional and symptoms have improved for at least 24 hours (if symptoms in- cluded nausea/vomiting/ diarrhea, these symptoms should be resolved for at least 48 hours); or, it has been 10 days since the symp- tom occurred and they are feeling better. Student with Possible Symptoms of COVID-19 at School • A "What to do if you feel unwell at school" poster is located in each classroom. • Each school has a desig- nated space for student iso- lation should they present with symptoms while at school. • The school will notify the parent/guardian that the student is waiting in the "Isolation Room" and needs to be picked up immediate- ly. • Any students living in the same household will al- so need to go home if not ful- ly immunized, or if they were not previously posi- tive within the past 90 days and have since been cleared.
