Predeceased by her parents Joseph and Ruby Gray, her sister Helen and brother-law Gil and the love of her life Ralph Powell, her husband of 58 years whom she dearly missed. She will also be missed by her sisters- and brothers-in-law Sheila (Gerry), Linda (Bowman) and her many nieces and nephews. Born in Kingston February 6th, 1932, she moved with Ralph and their children to Beaconsfield QC, Oakville, back to Kingston and eventually to Oakville where she spent her final years with her friends at Palermo Village (Oakville) and The Jacob (Beamsville) retirement re- sidences. She spent many years raising her family before returning to work. Post-retirement, Shirley and Ralph spent several memorable years in Florida during the winters. Her friends and family will remember her as a social butterfly who loved making new friends, dancing, playing cards and always being impeccably dressed. Although she will be terribly missed, she has always asked us to "remember the good times." She will always hold a special place in our hearts. A private family burial and celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Our deepest gratitude to the staff at Palermo Village and The Jacob retirement residences for the care our mother received while living at these two amazing homes. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (Grimsby) and St. Peter's Hospital (Hamilton) for the care provided to our mother in her final days. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation in Shirley's memory, please donate to the Alzheimer's society, St. Peter's Hospital or a charity of your choice. A wonderful person, friend and aide, one who was better God never made; a wonderful worker, so loyal and true, one in a million - that person was you. And have you gone, forever gone and left us here to weep. Till we are called to follow you, and in the grave to sleep; yet since you could no longer stay to cheer us with your love, we hope to meet with you again in the bright world above. Always so good, unselfish and kind none on this earth your equal I'll find.
