The top-three finalists were announced by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA), which holds the annual event to recognize community journalism across Ontario. Here's a look at the cate- gories Halton's newspa- pers have been nomination in: Graham Paine is up for Photographer of The Year for -- among many other images -- capturing the tragic scene of a drowning incident in Milton. He's also a finalist in the Most Creative Grip and Grin Photo category for the Oakville Beaver (CO- VID graduation ceremo- ny), as well as receiving an honourable mention in the same category for the Mil- ton Champion. The Burlington Post re- ceived an honourable men- tion in the General Excel- lence category. Bambang Sadewo was nominated for Best Educa- tion Story for a Milton stu- dent fighting for equality in her Catholic school, while Herb Garbutt re- ceived a nomination in the Best Rural Story category for his piece on the plight of Halton farmers. In the Best Feature/ News Series category, Gar- butt, Sadewo and Bryan Myers -- the Burlington Post -- received a nomina- tion for their three-part se- ries on #pushingboundar- ies, which explored the im- pact of community growth in areas like social, cultur- al and climate change. The Burlington Post -- Louie Rosella, Paine and Sadewo -- is a finalist in the Online Breaking News Coverage category for a deadly crash on the QEW in Burlington, which claimed the lives of two young women. Sadewo is also a finalist in the Multimedia Online/ Best Online Experience category for the interac- tive timeline on Milton's CN intermodal saga, while David Lea was nominated in the Breaking News Vid- eo category for the Oak- ville toboggan hill contro- versy. The first-, second- and third-place finishers will be announced on April 29. This photo of a local high school graduation ceremony is a finalist for an OCNA award.
