MODEL RW1H2NES MODEL FE2F5NJ SPORT MODEL SHOWN MODEL YF6H0NKN BLACK EDITION MODEL SHOWN OVER 96% OF ALL HONDA MODELS SOLD IN CANADA IN THE LAST 10 YEARS ARE STILL ON THE ROAD TODAY.V During February, we celebrate Black History Month. This is a time to highlight the accom- plishments of Black Canadians, under- stand their lived experiences and commit to addressing ongoing injustices and inequi- ties. Following a historic motion introduced by the Hon. Jean Augustine, first African- Canadian woman elected to Parliament, the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in 1995. This year's theme is "February and For- ever: Celebrating Black history today and every day." Oakville is steeped in the contributions of its early Black settlers -- from James Wesley Hill, whose strawberry farm helped lift our town out of economic depression in the 1850s, to Samuel Adams and Rev. Wil- liam Butler, whose church laid the ground- work for the Turner African Methodist Church which still stands proudly today. Indeed, Oakville's Black community was instrumental in shaping the town we know and love today. As we celebrate the remarkable achieve- ments of Black Canadians, we also need to address the social, economic and political barriers caused by systemic racism and dis- crimination. Our government is committed to stand- ing up for human rights and fighting racism in all its forms. Through our renewed Anti-Racism Strategy, the Black Entrepreneurship Pro- gram, the Supporting Black Canadian Com- munities Initiative, the Black-led Philan- thropic Endowment Fund and many more initiatives, our government is working with Black communities to combat systemic an- ti-Black racism, support Black economic empowerment and promote the well-being of Black Canadians. We will also continue to advance justice reform and combat anti-Black hate. This February, and every month, we re- commit to building a more inclusive, more equal Canada where no one gets left behind. Anita Anand is the MP for Oakville and the Minister of National Defence.
