Doug Raven, Oakville resident and former CEO of the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OV- MA), has received the 2022 Honorary Membership Award (HMA). The HMA is given to non-medical professionals who have contributed posi- tively to the profession. The OVMA gave the award to Raven in recognition of his service as CEO, which he held from 1999 to 2021. "Although he was not a veterinarian, Mr. Raven had an uncanny ability to see what the profession needed, and how to steer the profession toward that goal," a statement by Dr. Matthew Richardson, trea- surer of the OVMA, reads. He added: "Throughout his tenure at OVMA, he identified lapses and built programs that made OV- MA stronger and enabled the association to make the lives of veterinarians, pets and pet owners in Ontario and across Canada signifi- cantly better." In 2002, Raven developed the OVMA's charitable arm called the Farley Founda- tion. This charity has dis- bursed more than $5 mil- lion to help 12,500 pets be- longing to low income fami- lies. The OVMA directly attributes this accomplish- ment and others to Raven. Raven also introduced the OVMA's pet insurance program, the member as- sistance program, and free legal advice, among other programs.
